A gland that secretes hormones into the
bloodstream to regulate body processes.
Endocrine glands are most highly developed in
vertebrates, but are also found in other
animals, notably insects. In humans the main
endocrine glands are the pituitary, thyroid,
parathyroid, adrenal, pancreas, ovary, and
testis.
